In the late winter of 2024, we found out our local yoga studio was closing and we didn’t want to see the end of this beautiful community that had been growing there. So when the previous owner decided not to re-sign the lease, we set out to work on a business plan, a new concept, and brand identity for our vision of Open Concept.
Originally we decided against investing more than we already had, so that meant the sacrifice of not renovating the current space. But that soon proved to be much more difficult than we realized! I mean, of course—we’re designers, so obviously we’re going to want to create a space that is more reflective of our concept for this business and community. So, with a whole lot of heart, creativity, resourcefulness, determination, and community, we set out to transform the space.
While we kept the original structure and layout of the entire space, the front lobby was just calling to be opened up to create a more welcoming feel. Visualize walking into a gentle, soft palette of milky tones bathed in natural light; a warm, cozy environment with a lounge, coffee bar, retail space, and greeting pedestals with a concierge feel; anchored by an oversize Bocci pendant; and glass feature walls with wall sized photography that celebrates our community.
We carried new flooring and a textured, plaster-like finish paint throughout the entire space. The walls are adorned with beautiful, inspiring words and artwork from local artist Darci Madlung. The studio space seamlessly flows from the rest of the space and is entered through a private, quiet hallway. Walking into the space feels open and airy with the newly painted out ceiling, yet cozy like a hug, from the warmth in the flooring and walls. Another glass photo feature wall personalizes the space, while large windows flood the space with natural light.
The concept of this business was to move beyond yoga and create a space that could offer holistic wellness to clients. Spacious and naturally lit treatment rooms house space for massage therapists, acupuncturists, reflexologists, reiki practitioners, and more!
Open Concept was born of the desire to create a space for curious minds, creative souls, and courageous beings to flourish. At the heart of our studio lives the desire to forge meaningful relationships and to connect with others who seek to pursue growth in all aspects of their lives.
This project couldn’t have come together without our community! In addition to our team, we also want to send gratitude out to everyone who assisted in bringing this brand and space together:
Trickett Interiors, Cosentino, Carrara, Boreal Woodwork, HutK, Buchwold Western, Johnsonite, Charleswood Paint, Capper Brothers, Robinson Lighting, GTS Sign Design, R.EN Demolition, Izabela Rachwal, and an extra special shout out to Merrill, Carli, and Sue — it really does take a village!
